Where the routes start

Sixteen direct origins are sold by the two airlines: Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Funchal, Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Praia, Boston, New York, Hamilton, Toronto and Montreal. Nine airlines serve the archipelago in total. London appears on none of the airline's destination lists, which is a genuinely useful gap to know before you search fares.

The Stopover trick

The Azores Stopover adds a stop of 1 to 7 days in the islands at no extra airfare on North America to Europe and Cape Verde itineraries. It turns one long-haul ticket into two destinations, and the airline's own fare page describes it directly.

Beyond Ponta Delgada

North American routes also reach Terceira, Santa Maria, Pico, Horta and Flores, while São Jorge and Graciosa are served from Lisbon and Porto only. Plan the airport around the islands you actually want, because the cheapest fare floor is not always the closest airport to them.

The 15-day window

The thermal park releases online availability only 15 days ahead, and the ticket is for a named date, with no walk-up quota published. The Azores-resident discount is sold only at the physical office, not online. The full price table and rules sit on /terra-nostra-tickets/.

Exclusively online, 1h30 at a time

The night-lit pools in Furnas sell every entry through their own booking site, with no counter sales. Each ticket is a 1h30 maximum stay, entry is by order of arrival, and the price steps up from $13.75 (€12) to $18.34 (€16) for entry from 18:00.

Timed blocks and the shuttle rule

The river pools on the north slope sell 1h30 timed e-ticket blocks with a 100-bather cap in the pools. During the shuttle season the entrance works on a prior-reservation basis, so book before you drive. Winter hour changes are tracked on /caldeira-velha-tickets/.

The split boat quota

The islet boat caps visitors at 400 a day, of which only 100 tickets are sold online. Online tickets must be validated at the physical box office before boarding, and if the online quota is gone, tickets may remain at the box office on the day. The season runs 12 June to 11 October 2026, details on /vila-franca-do-campo/.

For a wet-weather hour in the valley, the CIAF, the Furnas interpretation centre, sells walk-up tickets at $3.44 (€3.00) and runs guided visits of 45 minutes booked at least 72 hours ahead, which makes it the cheapest ticketed stop on the island.

A network with no printed fares

The ferry network serves ten ports and there is no Ponta Delgada port on the list, so the boats never touch the main island. The timetable is a date-by-date search tool, and no static per-route fare or crossing time is published anywhere. Discount categories do exist: Family Pack and Groups get up to 30% off, Large Families up to 10%.

How to actually book

Booking runs through the operator's own booking site, where the fare for your chosen date and crossing appears only inside the search. That makes the Faial terminal at Horta the practical anchor for the triangle, more on the island at /faial/.

The free list

Viewpoints and signed trails on the parks network cost nothing, and so do the western lakes visitor centre, the tea factory producing since 1883 with no booking, both pineapple greenhouses, the fumarole fields on the Furnas valley lake shore and the western tide pool at low tide. Free does not mean unlimited

Two of the free sites still have hard caps. The islet allows only 200 people on it at the same time, and the river pools cap bathers at 100, so arrive early or book a timed block even for the places that charge nothing.
